Hundreds gather downtown to advocate for climate justice

On Sept. 20, millions of young people and adults across the globe walked out of their schools and workplaces to rally in support of bold action to mitigate the ongoing climate crisis. Hundreds showed up at Guthrie Green in downtown Tulsa to make their voices heard. The demonstration—featuring representation from environmental advocacy groups, student coalitions and local businesses—included rousing speeches, handmade protest signs and a march in the name of climate justice.

Deep frustration at the inaction of Oklahoma lawmakers was a common theme. "I went to DC recently and met with our Senator Jim Inhofe and he has a whole book called Global Warming: America’s Biggest Hoax,” said Gavin from Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences. “He’s just so socially disconnected and doesn’t talk to anyone and just stays in his dim-lit office and has been there the past 50 years doing nothing."
