GALLERY: Stevie Wonder at The Joint
11/2/18
Legendary singer/songwriter Stevie Wonder played the first of two consecutive nights at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s theater, The Joint on Friday, November 2. Dubbed “Stevie Wonder’s Song Party,” the concert spanned Wonder’s long and prolific career, pulling timeless hits and deep cut gems as well as a couple of covers performed as only Stevie Wonder can.
The funky and danceable set list did highlight one particular era more than others, as nearly half of the songs played were originally released in the ’80s. Ever the perfectionist and refusing to give an audience any less than the best, in the middle of the set, Wonder apologized for the sound of his voice early in the show before playing the Hotter than July track “All I Do” for the second time of the evening. That kind of dedication to artistry is rare to see, but it’s what has made Stevie Wonder such a beloved figure over his half-century-long career. The second run through the song boiled over into a frenzy tamed by the impeccable band and topped by Wonder’s crystal-clear and soaring tenor.
