On Friday, January 18, Metallica brought their Worldwired Tour to Tulsa’s BOK Center. The band performed on a stage in the center of the crowd and under 52 moving LED cubes that created a constantly shifting and morphing atmosphere.
The set list leaned heavily on the band’s classic albums of the ‘80s and early ‘90s and their latest release, 2016’s Hardwired... to Self-Destruct.
Highlights of the show included a jam on “You Dropped a Bomb on Me” by Tulsa’s own Gap Band, a cover of Soundgarden’s “Head Injury,” and Hardwired...’s “Moth Into Flame,” during which dozens of autonomous drones danced above the stage like the sentient embers of Kirk Hammet’s scorching licks.
