GALLERY: Angel Olsen at The Criterion
Thanhhien Nguyen
Angel Olsen rolled into OKC on Saturday, Nov. 9 to deliver a tear-jerking set on the heels of her newest LP, All Mirrors. The St. Louis native played her entire new album (aside from two songs) with some classic material sprinkled in. Fast paced crowd pleasers like "Shut Up Kiss Me" and "True Blue" broke up the more emotional songs and served as much-needed dance breaks/opportunities to dry your eyes.
Angel Olsen was joined by a seven-piece band, including a string section which added depth to the live show. Despite her beautiful and emotional songs, Olsen kept the energy up through the night by bantering with the audience. Rather than coming out and blowing through her songs, she asked what the move was after the show, solicited karaoke recommendations and even tried in vain to get an audience member a free beer or two. Her heart-wrenching ballads and commanding showmanship created a special connection between all the strangers in the crowd who showed up to see their favorite Angel.
